Mr. Peabody & Sherman

downloadI worked on this project most of 2013. I had a such great time on it!

There were a lot of interesting challenges to tackle, and I had the pleasure of getting to know and work with an amazing team of artists. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this a wonderful movie!

I definitely had to push myself out of my comfort zone, having to go for a much more cartoony and colorful look that I am used to! A LOT of lessons learned.

I hope you have fun looking through these. All images copyright DreamWorks Animation.

This sequence marks the emotional climax of the film. To illustrate the inner conflict of the characters, I tried to raise the level of intensity with strong contrast and very hard, sharp light, splitting most things down the middle.

Concept sketches

These were quick sketches that helped us figure a lot of things out, especially how we could stage the last act of the movie using different types of lighting scenarios and color palettes:

Effects!

These are some paintings that I made as a guide for developing special effects in the movie. Some of these concepts didn’t make it to the film in the end, but it was a lot of fun to explore what you could do with effects in a time-travelling story:

Jay Ward tribute

Jay Ward was the creator of “Mr. Peabody and Sherman”, as well as the ‘Rocky and Bullwinkle show”. These are a couple of easter eggs from the movie. Can you spot them in there?

Posters

We took some time to design a couple of posters for the movie. Some of these are total nonsense:

Design Stuff

I mostly worked doing color work on the film, but here are a couple of things I designed. This includes a lot of fruit:
